حذر وزير الخارجية الروسي سيرجي لافروف من اندلاع حرب عالمية ثالثة، وقال إن هذه الحرب ستكون «نووية مدمرة».
وحمل لافروف، في تصريحات تلفزيونية، الغرب المسؤولية عما آلت إليه الأمور، وقال: «الغرب رفض التعامل مع مطالبنا بصياغة هندسة جديدة للأمن الأوروبي».
وأبدى في الوقت نفسه استعداد روسيا لجولة جديدة من المفاوضات مع أوكرانيا، لكنه اعتبر أن «الجانب الأوكراني يماطل بأوامر أمريكية».
وتعليقا على العقوبات الغربية على بلاده، قال لافروف: «كنا مستعدين لهذه العقوبات، ولكن لم نتوقع أن تستهدف الرياضيين والمثقفين والفنانين والإعلاميين»، وشدد في الوقت نفسه على أن «لدى روسيا كثيرا من الأصدقاء ولا يمكن عزلها».
