France is topping travel wishlists this season, with UAE residents locking in their late summer plans. dnata Travel reports a 12% year-on-year increase in July bookings for August and September trips, as demand rises for city breaks, cool-weather escapes, and easy-access island retreats.
The European country led July bookings, in line with its traditional peak travel period, according to the company’s latest booking data. While UAE residents are used to year-round heat, many are opting for destinations that still offer warmth – but with a distinctly different summer experience. France fits the bill, with its high season peaking in August, when lively cities, cooler evenings, and cultural events take centre stage.
The Maldives came in a close second, remaining a near-permanent fixture on the UAE travel agenda. Also high on the list were Thailand and Turkey, both consistent performers during this travel period. Rounding out the top five is a surprise entry: Austria, gaining traction among travellers seeking cooler weather and outdoor escapes.
“We’re seeing a lot of UAE travellers make more considered choices – they know what they want from a holiday,” said Meerah Ketait, Head of Retail and Leisure at dnata Travel. “That might be cooler weather, a vibrant city break, or a destination that’s easy to get to and unwind in. It’s about getting the most out of their time away.”
The data reveals that city breaks are the most popular type of trip among UAE residents this summer, followed by family-friendly holidays and classic beach escapes. The trend suggests a strong appetite for immersive, fast-paced travel — whether it’s a weekend in Vienna or a few days exploring Tokyo.
dnata Travel unveils Secret Stays Maldives
While most travellers are still booking their holidays two to three months in advance, dnata Travel notes a growing appetite for spontaneity. More residents are embracing flexible schedules and last-minute deals, with some finalising trips just two to three weeks ahead of departure. In line with this shift, dnata Travel has recently launched Secret Stays Maldives – a new concept offering curated luxury holidays to the popular Indian Ocean destination where the name of the resort is revealed only after booking is confirmed.
“This kind of travel reflects a shift in mindset,” said Ketait. “Some people are more open to surprise and discovery, especially when they trust the quality of what’s being offered. For them, that sense of adventure is part of the appeal.”
New destinations on the rise
Alongside the usual favourites, Greece, the Czech Republic, Japan, and Canada are showing growth for August and September travel. These destinations offer a mix of cooler weather, culture-rich cities, and seasonal experiences, giving travellers plenty of reasons to venture beyond the usual routes.
Whether it’s postcard-perfect Paris, barefoot luxury in the Maldives, or late summer strolls through Prague – UAE travellers aren’t ready to pack away their passports just yet.
